St Chad’s is at the heart of Poulton town centre. The grounds are an attractive place to visit and sit awhile for a bit of peace in a hectic world. Each Spring it becomes a tourist attraction in its own right. Have you seen the crocus at St Chad’s Church?
Crocus at St Chad’s Church
The whole of the grounds are carpeted in spring bulbs, and we mean literally thousands and thousands of them.
First, the snowdrops begin to appear from about the end of January. There is a lot of snowdrops, but far, far more crocus! They start to open some weeks later, depending on the weather. March is usually a good month to visit.
These are photos from Visit Poulton’s archives of crocus at St Chad’s, caught in previous years. We’ll be going back again this year to take new shots. Will you?

The last few photos in the above gallery were taken in February 2018. We were a little bit early and the flowers weren’t at their best. It’s all a question of timing and what the weather is like in any particular year.
We did also grab a short video clip of the church grounds for you in 2018 though. Take a look –
