The Staining Villagers are holding their First Scarecrow Festival!
This community event is running throughout the summer until the prize giving on Sunday 14th September at Staining Village Hall during the “It’s a field day” event.
Judging of the scarecrows takes place on 7th September
Everyone’s being encouraged to get into the Scarecrow making mood – with local businesses being asked to get stuffing along with individuals, schools and groups.
Councillor John Singleton set the village off, by building a scarecrow for his garden to keep away the birds.
As it’s something that anyone can do for little or no cost, local woman Sharon Leadbetter came up with the idea of turning one bird scarer into a much bigger event that all the community can get involved with.
Hopefully in coming years it will become as big an event as other local scarecrow festivals.
