Seniors Fish and Chips are planning to open a new fish and chip restaurant and takeaway in Poulton town centre.
The contract has just been signed that, subject to planning approval, will see a new Seniors restaurant and takeaway opening in the Teanlowe Centre, adjacent to Queensway to the right of Costa Coffee.
Seniors is the family owned local chain of fish and chip restaurants and takeaways, with stores at Normoss, Bispham, Lytham, St Annes, and Thornton which was crowned the UKs best takeaway in 2012.
Following approval of the planning application which has been submitted by Seniors, a new shop front will be installed in what is currently a wall to the right of the existing Costa shop-front. Following that works will include a full fit-out, new furniture and interior decoration to complete the transformation into the same quality of food-outlet that you’ve come to expect from the other five Fylde Coast shops.
Assuming that the initial plan and build stages run smoothly, plans are that the store will be open in February 2018. As a new departure for the Seniors brand, the Poulton store will also serve fresh, oven cooked chicken.
Managing Director Alastair Horabin said “With five Seniors shops here on the Fylde Coast we’re always looking at where the business could go next. This site at Poulton ticks all the boxes for us and we’re hoping that everything will go well and we can open next February and be part of the town”.
Once open, the new store will create up to 10 new jobs. Anyone who visits the Normoss shop will recognise the new manager at Poulton, as plans are that Paula Smith will take over the shop. Paula has been with Seniors since 2000 and joined the company when she was just 14 years old.
Alastair added “This is great news for the business and for the town as it will provide choice for local people and new jobs. For the business signing the lease comes at the same time as the good news that the St Annes store has been shortlisted as one of the top 20 stores in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2018, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed for that!”

Holland's pies and puddings, made in Lancashire for over 165 years, are on sale at all Fylde Coast branches of Seniors.
Best-selling products from Holland’s include Steak Pudding, Potato & Meat Pie, Cheese & Onion Pie, Chicken & Mushroom Pie and Steak Pie.
Famous for its rich, tasty fillings, traditional baking methods and, of course, its unique shortcrust pastry, Holland’s uses only the freshest vegetables, prime cuts of 100% British meat and locally sourced mature cheddar cheese to make up its tasty, mouth watering savoury selection.
The unmistakable blend of shortcrust pastry contains less fat than a standard shortcrust pastry, and its firm texture means that the pie doesn't lose any quality and texture even after sitting in the warmer.
Seniors Managing Director Alastair Horabin said: “We are so excited to be working with Holland’s, Lancashire’s favourite chippy pie. Customers are becoming more and more conscious of what goes into their food, so choosing a supplier on the quality and sourcing is important. Holland’s have a leading reputation for quality – we are thrilled to be supplying their pies and puddings and think they will be a huge hit with our customers.”
One of three shops on the Fylde Coast, the Blackpool Normoss shop is a takeaway and restaurant with seating for 56 people in great premises right at the side of open countryside, with plenty of parking opposite.

At Seniors, we’ve got a passion for fish and chips. Not just any old fish and chips, but giving you the best fish and chips.
For us that means the best ingredients, sourced locally with skinned and boned sustainable fish from Fleetwood and potatoes grown locally. It means the best cooking methods so we use unsaturated fat to look after your health, and weigh the portions of fish to look after your wallet.
We’re passionate about the experience you get from our shops, so we try to make them as modern and pleasant an environment as possible, and the staff are all well trained and great at their jobs. But most of all we’re passionate about giving you value for money – so not only are our fish and chips great along with the shop experience, but the price you pay for them is a good one too!

Seniors Fish and Chips have been shortlisted as finalists in the UK's Best Multiple Fish and Chip Operator Award
We're delighted that Seniors have been shortlisted as one of the three UK’s leading fish and chip businesses in the Best Multiple Fish and Chip Operator Award as part of the 2016 National Fish & Chip Awards, organised by Seafish - that's the competition where Seniors Thornton won the crown of UK's BEST Fish and Chip Takeaway in 2012!
We've been ‘fried and tested’, coming out on top as one of the ultimate fish frying groups. We've been assessed across the whole business operation on a variety of judging criteria including the responsible sourcing policies of raw ingredients, outlet appearance and facilities, menu development and innovation, customer satisfaction monitoring, staff development and training programmes, marketing and promotional activity and the adherence to dietary requirements.
The National Fish & Chip Awards are recognised as one of the most prominent and respected seafood industry events in the UK. Widely considered as the ‘Oscars’ of the fish frying industry, they celebrate the great British tradition of fish and chips, recognising the best talent, quality and choice offered by fish and chip businesses.
In the last two years, Alastair has set himself the challenge of getting fit and shedding the pounds, and after losing an incredible 50lb enjoyed the exercise and fitness regime so much that he decided to take on a triathlon. Not to be content with that he thought he might as well go the full nine yards and make it a Half Ironman (or Ironman 70.3 UK to give it the exact title) and raise funds for two great charities at the same time.
A problem with his cruciate ligament and a small operation didn’t hamper training and Alastair was back on his bike in no time at all. He said “a Half Ironman is a 1.2 mile swim in a lake, followed by a 56 mile bike ride then a 13.1 mile half marathon so it’s no small undertaking, especially since it was set in the challenging landscape of the Exmoor National Park, and a lot of sustained training needed to go in beforehand. I thought while I was doing all the hard work it might as well be to someone’s benefit, so I was fundraising for Rotary International and Redmarsh School at Thornton.”
Alastair added “At Seniors we’ve always supported Redmarsh School so it was a delight to be able to help them again, and Rotary also do so much good work for children all over the world.”
Making us not only the place to come for superb seaside fish and chips, but for officially the best fish and chips in the country!
Seniors at Marsh Mill were crowned winners of the '2012 Independent Takeaway Fish & Chip Shop of the Year Award' and were presented with the trophy by the celebrity chef, TV presenter and restauranteur Richard Corrigan at a ceremony at the Riverbank Park Plaza Hotel in London. We were also finalists in the Independent Restaurant of the Year and Good Catch categories.
We secured one of the final 10 places in the competition, which were hard earned, after an unannounced visit from industry judges, where shops were assessed on a wide variety of judging criteria including; product quality, customer service, food preparation procedures, hygiene, innovation, staff training and development, promotional activity and approaches to sustainable sourcing.
The Awards are organised by Seafish, the authority on seafood. The Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award recognises the wealth of quality, value and choice offered by the nation’s much loved independent fish and chip shops.
