Why Poulton-le-Fylde?

The word ‘Poulton’ is derived from a ‘farmstead by a pool or creek‘. Then in 1842 the Penny Post arrived. So the ‘le-Fylde’ bit was added to distinguish it from Poulton-le-Sands, which is near Morecambe.

Rural Over Wyre

‘Over Wyre’ is the area reached by travelling to the far side of the River Wyre. Travel via Shard Bridge to cross the River by car or by foot. It’s the left turn at the lights off the A585, signposted for Over Wyre.

Or you can travel the longer way round through scenic countryside, via Great Eccleston and St Michael’s.

Alternatively, take a trip across the river to Knott End on the Fleetwood Ferry. (Please check with operator before travelling). When you get there you’ll be greeted by the statue of LS Lowry and his dog.

Getting to Poulton

There’s a railway station at Poulton and the area is well served by main roads and motorways. You can travel in, out and around relatively easily.

There’s an excellent public transport service provided by Blackpool Transport. The bus fleet includes many brand new Palladium style buses.
