Booths plans for the Teanlowe Centre are now complete. The supermarket chain built a 35,200 sq ft store within the Teanlowe Centre in Poulton Town Centre.
The side of the Teanlowe which includes the Co-op and WH Smiths was demolished to make way for the new store. Shopkeepers made the move to the other side of the mall in readiness for the work to start.
The roof over the section of the Teanlowe which leads to the Market Square has been replaced. An extension was built to the front of the former Clarks shoe shop along with a double height, glazed entrance.
The project involved demolition of the western part of the Teanlowe Centre, which contained, among others, Co-op and WH Smith, to make way for the new store. This was the final phase of the development.
In an arrangement with Booths, the Teanlowe car park is now a free short stay park for shoppers. A new link road through Hardhorn Road car park was included as part of the project.
Booths plans for the Teanlowe Centre – Plans and Project Details
Published April 2012
Plans have been released by the north west based supermarket, that will see the Teanlowe Centre come back to life, with a modern new store and improved mall facilities.
The new Booths Foodstore will cover 34,500 sq ft, and the remainder of the existing mall between Market Place and the Teanlowe car park will be upgraded to provide a better shopping environment.
The plans also include the creation of a new link road through the Hardhorn car park which is Council owned.
Before a planning application is submitted, Booths are holding a public exhibition so that local people can view their plans and make comment. It will be held in the vacant Bodycare unit, which is unit 17, on Friday 27 April between 10am and 6pm, and on Saturday 28 April between 9am and 5pm.
It’s an exciting proposal which will see the revitalisation of the centre of Poulton.
Booths had previously unvelied plans in April 2011 to transform their Ball Street store with a completely new rebuild of 20,000 sq ft of floor space.
Dransfield Properties, the owners of The Market Hall, had also released plans for the transformation of The Market Hall and adjacent end of the Teanlowe Centre, which would see an Asda supermarket come to Poulton town centre.
Both sets of proposals are being considered and planning applications are expected to be submitted in due course.
